What is a pod vape?
A pod vape has two parts: a small device (the battery) and a pod or cartridge that holds the e-liquid and the coil. When you inhale or press the button, the battery heats the coil, which turns the liquid into vapour. When the pod runs out, you refill or replace it. The device keeps going.

This is where most people go wrong: pods are not universal. Here are the main pairings in our range:

E-liquids: saltnic, freebase and HTPC
If you use an open pod, you choose your own e-liquid. Saltnic is smooth at higher strengths and made for pods. Freebase has a sharper throat hit and is usually vaped at lower strengths in coils that make more vapour. HTPC (High Throat-hit Pod Compatible) is a pod liquid made for a stronger throat hit than standard saltnic. Nicotine strength
Strength is shown in mg per ml. 20mg means 20mg of nicotine in each ml of liquid, or 2%. Most of the pre-filled pods and saltnic liquids we list with a strength are 20mg. Coils and resistance
The Ω number on a cartridge is its coil resistance. Lower numbers (like 0.4Ω) give more vapour and a looser, direct-to-lung draw. Refilling an open pod
Fill slowly through the fill port, keep liquid out of the centre air tube, leave a small gap at the top and let a new cartridge soak for a few minutes before your first puff. Our step-by-step guide on how to refill an open pod includes notes for each refillable cartridge we sell.
Looking after your pod
- Use the lock if your device has one. The Boldpod Onyx has a child lock, the NCIG Pro has a safety lock, and the Syokpod V2 has an on/off switch so it won’t fire in your pocket.
- Keep it away from heat, such as a car dashboard in the afternoon sun.
- Replace pods and cartridges when the taste turns burnt or flat.
- Keep it out of reach of children.

What’s the simplest type of pod vape?
A closed-pod device, because there’s nothing to fill or adjust. Draw-activated devices like the NCIG Cube don’t even have a button.
Are pods universal?
No. Each device takes specific pods, although some, like the Syokpod V2, take several brands. Check the “Works with” list on each product page.
Can I put any e-liquid in an open pod?
Match the liquid to the coil: saltnic for higher-resistance coils, freebase for lower-resistance ones. See our e-liquid guide.
